Doris's puppies started to arrive on 29 Aug 2021 a worrying 8 days early. Although 5 of the puppies were delivered naturally, Doris needed an emergency c-section for the remaining 8.
They only fill a corner of the whelping box at the moment but it won't be long before they fill the whole box

The saddest of days, 3 of the puppies passed away during the night. They have been buried in the garden next to Gertie's little girl.

Doris is reluctant to go in the whelping box but will allow the puppies to feed from her when she's laid on the sofa.

The puppies are getting a small amount of milk from Doris but are mainly being bottle fed. Click on each image to see the enlarged version.

The puppies had their first feed from a bowl this morning. They took to lapping like ducks to water, with milk everywhere. I was hoping to take some photos but I was too busy supervising the puppies diving into the bowl.
The second feed from the bowls, this time 2 bowls instead of one.

Three weeks old and the puppies have had their first taste of proper food - kibble soaked in hot water then milk added. It's always a messy process when they start weaning, with them often ending up covered in food.

This litter, more than any other I've bred, has had a huge impact on my life, physically, mentally and emotionally. Whilst it's huge relief to have got them to this point, where they're ready for their new homes, it's such a wrench to let them go. They're going to the best homes possible and starting a new chapter in their lives. Follow their progress on the More of Doris' puppies 2021 page.
