Feeding time again - well, let's face it, anytime they're awake is feeding time. The little guy in the middle of the picture has already had his fill and decided to have a nap.
You can see all 9 puppies here, sporting their new ID collars. The colour they're wearing will be the one they have until they leave here for their new homes.

A week old already, here's the smallest girl. . . . . . . . . . . .
. . . . . . . . and one of the boys.
The puppies have been weighed today and have all more or less doubled their birth weight. This video was taken this afternoon. If you listen carefully you'll hear the TV in the background and the sort of intellectual programme I normally watch (CITV - or was it CBeebies?) As you'll see, Martha's not the gentlest of mums but is quite thorough in her cleaning of the puppies.
11 March 2012
The puppies are already too big to put in the box I first used, so while I was cleaning out the whelping box I put them in one of the smaller dog beds.
12 March 2012
Granny Poppy sneaking in to give the puppies a quick wash while Martha was out in the garden.
Brother and sister snuggling up asleep together.
I've been asked which colour collars the boys and girls are wearing - the girls wear purple, yellow and orange and the boys wear the others.
13 March 2012
Wouldn't you just love to blow a raspberry on that tummy?
The puppies have started to open their eyes today so no more photos for a day or two unless the puppies are asleep - I wouldn't want to risk harming their eyes with the flash.

All the puppies have their eyes open now and instead of the 'commando crawl' they're getting up on their feet, though a little wobbly. Here they are.
20 March 2012
Another puppy video. The puppies are starting to interact with each other and it won't be long before they're biting each other's ears and pulling on each other's tails.
21 March 2012
Poor puppies, there they were, fast asleep in the dog bed while I was cleaning out the whelping box. Little did they know what I had in store for them - nail trimming! At this stage it's particularly important to keep their nails short and smooth so that they don't cause Martha any damage. Ned won't let me near his nails with the Pedipaws now he's a big boy but was extremely interested in what I was doing to the puppies.
22 March 2012
Tucking into their first meal, they didn't need any encouragement
And afterwards - with very full tummies.
25 March 2012
Breakfast time!
It's hardly surprising they need a mid-morning nap, these puppies are party animals.
At 2 o'clock this morning they were wide awake and rocking!

When you compare this photo with the first one on this page you can see how much the puppies have grown in their first 3 weeks of life.
27 March 2012
Looking at these photos you'd get the impression that all the puppies do is sleep. Well, of course they sleep some of the time, but when they're awake the whole street knows about it! Their latest game is to try and jump on the newspaper as I put clean pieces down in the whelping box. They're eager to explore and will soon need to be moved into the other room, where they can be allowed out of the box.
29 March 2012
Check out the little guy behind, he looks to be having a good chuckle about something.
Don't think you'll have much luck there, puppies, that's not your mum, it's granny Poppy.
Mother and daughter
One of the families having a bitch puppy came to visit this evening, so the three little girls were allowed out of the whelping box. After lots of playing and plenty of cuddles the puppies eventually settled down for a nap. The girl with the purple collar settled down by Martha. All together "Ahh".
31 March 2012
Poppy decided to do a bit of puppy-sitting while Martha had a nap.
01 April 2012
The end of a busy week for me and my canine family as many of the puppies' new owners came for their first visits. Lots of cuddles (the puppies) and lots of talking (me). Many thanks to John Taylor for the photos below and for the latest ones added to Poppy and Phoebe's pages.
02 April 2012
Poppy's taking her duties as grandmother very seriously and has been getting in with the puppies at every opportunity. This was what she was doing this afternoon and here you can see Ned taking over where Poppy left off.
04 April 2012
When your mum's taking a well-earned rest there's
no-one better to snuggle up with than granny. Poppy's quite happy to spend all day in with the puppies and they're quite happy to have her there.

"Come on Uncle Ned, we want to play"
"and Isis, you can join in too"
07 April 2012
Feeding time, now with separate bowls. The puppies have been outside today for the first time. They didn't stay out for very long as the house was much warmer.

13 April 2012
A busy day for the puppies. They had the ear ID tattoos done this morning and this evening they've been weighed and wormed. This video was taken this evening as they were settling back down for a nap. The little guy in the corner, behind the dog bed, is Mr Stripey Collar (previously grey collar). As well as changing that boy's collar, the one with the light green collar now wears one that's bright green with white spots, this should make it easier for everyone to tell the difference between the two of them in photos and videos.
It's going to be a busy and very exciting weekend as the rest of the new owners come to choose their puppies and I get to know what their pet names will be. So far we have Bertie, Billy, Juno, Oscar and Wilma.

All the puppies have now met their new owners and we know which puppy is going to live with which family. There were some very excited children visiting at the weekend - and some rather excited adults as well. The puppies are now officially Bertie, Billy, Bridie, Charlie, Juno, Luca, Oscar, Pluto and Wilma.
I'd planned to combine the puppies' first car journey with their first experience of grass. Unfortunately the weather put the mockers on that. The puppies have quickly learnt that the place to poo is out on the patio and will stand and shout for the patio doors to be opened when they need to 'go'.
Poppy is continuing her grandmotherly duties and Ned and Isis are still keen to go in and play with the puppies, as you can see from the following photos, taken this evening.

The weather's been terrible, very cold and lots of rain, so the puppies haven't had much chance to go outside. This short video was taken this morning, in between showers. This second video was taken inside and shows my youngest grandson, Luca, with the puppies and the third one shows the puppies playing tug-of-war with some of the toys.
20 April 2012
The puppies' first car journey. Here they are waiting to set off for their visit to the vet for their
check-ups before going to their new homes. The receptionists at the vets had been watching for our arrival, each of them keen to be the one who got puppy cuddles as they helped to carry them through to the surgery.

Another car ride, this time to my partner's farm so they could play on the grass.
24 April 2012
The last photo of all the puppies together with Martha before they start to leave for their new homes. It's been an emotional day as I said goodbye to Charlie (red collar) and he left for his new home. One by one the puppies will be leaving in the next few days and by Sunday afternoon there will only be Bertie, who is staying an extra couple of weeks while his new owners are on holiday. For more photos and progress reports on the puppies in their new homes go to More of Martha's puppies 2012

"FOOOOOD,
we want food!".
we want food!".
Poor Ned, he doesn't stand a chance against his nephews and nieces.
30 April 2012
And then there was one. Here's Bertie snuggling up against his mum. All the other puppies are now in their new homes, but Bertie's staying an extra couple of weeks while his new owners are on holiday. He's been out and about with me today, to the drycleaners, bank and pet food store. He had lots of attention as I carried him in my arms.
Should have had the vac out before I took this photo. Mother and son together.

Bertie having a snooze.
12 May 2012
Bertie has gone to his new home today. It's always hard to say goodbye to the puppies and today has been particularly hard as Bertie has been here for an extra 2 weeks. Have a look here to see more about Bertie and all the other puppies as they start their new lives.
