Poppy's puppies 2009
Poppy's puppies arrived on Sunday 5 April 2009. Ten gorgeous little black bundles of fluff, 9 girls and 1 boy. The first girl arrived at 00.58 and the last one at 08.47. Despite there being a very comfortable whelping box set up in our dining room, Poppy had her mind set on a different location and all 10 puppies were born in our bedroom. Mum and babies will stay in there for the next couple of days before moving downstairs.
The proud dad is Reiver (Linnburnhead Reed Warbler) . For more details about him have a look at Reiver's page
The rugby scrum! All 10 of them are there, but some are on the lower deck.

Friday 10 April 2009 - day 6
Taken this afternoon, Poppy and puppies having a siesta in the whelping box (the white blobs you can see on the puppies are tippex)
A box full of puppies!
While Poppy was in the garden I took the opportunity to weigh the puppies and clean out the whelping box. Here they all are, no worse for their ordeal. What nicer Easter present could anyone wish for?
Day 11 - watch the puppies dash to the milk bar.

Sunday 19 April 2009 - 2 weeks old today.
Early crate training - well, not really, they're just chilling out while grandma cleans out the whelping box. They're all sporting their new identity collars, even the only boy - I couldn't leave him out!

Their first taste of real food. They ended up with rather more on the floor than in their tummies, but it was a very good first attempt.

Thursday 30 April 2009
It's been a hard day and I'm totally quackered.
Not quite as good as Mum's but goats' milk helps fill the gap.

"I've re-arranged all the newspaper, let me think, what can I do next?"
"Now if I can just bite a bit harder we can out of here"
"I didn't touch that paper, honest".
